Soroptimist held our final 2016 Awards and Recognition presentations on Wednesday, May 18th. Take a look at these outstanding young women!
The Tech Trek Award
presented to Sophia Ysabelle Vinluan-Lee. Born in the Phillipines, Sophia is currently excelling as a 7th grader at Chico Junior High School. She has a passion for science--especially genetics, biology and anatomy.
Our 2015 Tech Trek Award winner, Biviana Quintana, joined us as a special guest speaker to share her recent accomplishments and her plans for a career in Criminal Investigation.
The Imagining Possibilities Award
Presented to two very promising young women who have been in foster care and are now pursuing higher education. Kaxia Kimble is graduating from Chico High School and has completed ROP coursework with special needs children. She will attend Butte College in the Fall with a career goal in Psychology.
Monique McDaniel is already ready to graduate from Butte College with an Associate Degree and will transfer to CSU, Channel Islands in the Fall to continue her pursuit of a career in Social Work.
The Positive Parenting Award
Given to Maranda Brown, a straight-A student at Butte College. Maranda has completed many parenting courses through the Butte College Foster Kinship Program and applies her skills to her own life with her son as she protects him from family addiction issues.
