Tech Trek Award – 2014

We gave away our 2014 Tech Trek award at our luncheon on May 21.

Awardee is Alexandra Sehorn.  Here are a few of her own words:

“My name is Alexandra Sehorn. I was born at Enloe Hospital and have lived in Chico all my life. I have a family of seven with my mom, dad, two younger brothers, a cat and a dog. My dad does consulting work and teaches part-time at Chico State. My mom is an elementary school teacher. I have participated in “Girls on the Run”, volleyball, basketball, swimming and I am in a church group.

I am currently a member  of our school CJSF. I attended Chico Christian in preschool, K and 1st grade, and 2nd-6th grade I attended Durham.  I am now attending Marsh Junior High in 7th grade. My teachers at Marsh have motivated and taught me to love school. Both my Science and Math teachers have inspired me to follow their steps in these subject areas. In Math we are working on solving integer and fraction equations with variables. In the future I want to do research in Genetics.

I am looking forward to my week at UC Davis Tech Trek to learn more about Math, Science, Technology and Engineering, and am very grateful to Soroptimist, International for giving me this opportunity. “

Speaking on the Tech Trek program is Carol Holzgrafe.

Carol Holzgrafe is Director of AAUW''s California Tech Trek Camps.  This like the teachers, camp directors and dorm mom's is a volunteer position.   Carol has worked tirelessly for over a decade to ensure that Tech Trek campers not only enjoy their week experiencing life on a University campus, but are inspired to pursue careers in Math and Science.
