Jesus Center

Since 2000, SI/Chico has given over $4900 in monetary donations, service, bedding, clothing, food and household supplies to the Jesus Center located in downtown Chico.

In 2002 Soroptimist of Chico donated $5000 towards the establishment of the Women’s Dormitory Project (the Sabbath House). The Sabbath House exists to allow women, either alone orwith children, to find respite from the trauma of an emergency situation of homelessness. We consistently provide products for the daily needs of the guests that stay there.

From 2003 to 2009, SI/Chico gave $ 500- $1000 each year. For over 10 years, SI/Chico members volunteer and serve the afternoon meal every 4th Friday of the month. In 2008, there were 93,000 meals served. Many times we are asked to fill in for other groups that can’t be there over the Summer and we are always able to accommodate the need as we have such a large group of volunteers to draw from.

The Jesus Center is dedicated to feeding, housing and clothing Chico’s hungry and homeless. The Jesus Center opened its doors in the early 1980’s and has the commitment of its staff and many volunteers, including volunteers from Soroptimist International of Chico.
