In 2009, SI/Chico donated $20,000 to the “Friends of The Library” on behalf of the Butte County Library Chico Branch. $14,000 provided support staff for 14 months (part-time) and $6,000 was used to repair, update and/or replace computers.
All county residents benefit from our local library. Libraries remind our community of the value of books. The Chico Library is a large part of our history as it was originally established in the Butte County Charter in 1913. Today, the Butte County Library system consists of six branch libraries and a literacy program. Headquartered in the Oroville Branch Library, the Library also serves residents through branches in Chico, Paradise, Gridley, Durham and Biggs.
